Jan 25

Thank you to all of the families and students who came out to the Grade 2 Celebration of Learning last night.

This week in writing we began to explore poetry and how we can use it to communicate a purpose/messages through strong words. We discussed how poetry should make the reader feel something, wonder or think of something in a new way. Ask me about how I can read and write like a poet.

In math we continued to explore the number line and discovered that we need to continue working on skip counting beyond 30 starting at different numbers. For example I can practice skip counting by 10 from 62 or counting by 2's from 73. To practice you can refer to the Mathletics assignments which will be open till Monday morning.

1) Food Bank Donations: If you would still like to contribute a minimum $5 dollar donation for a digital copy of the recipe book the students created, please send in your donation by Thursday January 31. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed.

2) Mathletics: This week the students where given an assignment to complete. Students have till Monday to complete the assignment.

3) Skating:

Hello Parents and Guardians!

The Royal Oak School Physical Education department is pleased to provide you with the opportunity to join us for an evening of Ice Skating. Please join us on either Tuesday, February 5th or Thursday, February 7th from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Royal Oak Community outdoor rink. We will have skates and helmets available to borrow from the Skate Shack. There will be music, hot chocolate and coffee. We hope to see you there!

Kid Sport Calgary has generously donated the use of their Skate Shack, which is a trailer full of skates! The skate shack will provide us with child, youth and adult skates as well as helmets. You will need to sign out the equipment with one of our volunteers.  All persons on the ice during this time will be required to wear a helmet and the equipment will be available on a “first come, first served basis.”

All children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.  School staff will not be supervising this event.  If a child is coming with an adult other than their parent/guardian, they would not be able to participate unless they have a written note from their parent/guardian indicating that another parent/guardian will supervise them for this activity.

We are looking for volunteers to help setting up the music, managing the skate shack (handing out and bringing in the equipment).  Also, assistance is needed attending to the hot beverage area. If you are available to volunteer, please email our volunteer coordinator, Niki at ROSvolunteers@gmail.com.

Thank you for supporting the Physical Education program and I hope to see you all soon!
